Rosemary Abeln of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on March 17, 2026, at age 89, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leo R. Abeln.
Loving mother of Douglas (Julie), David (Susan), and Timothy (Nicole) Abeln; dear sister of Ann Michalski. Cherished grandmother of Alec (Hayden), Cullen (Avery), Ryan, Derek, and Justin Abeln, and great-granddaughter Andi Lynn Abeln. She was also a devoted aunt, great-aunt, and friend.
Born in St. Louis to John and Anna (nee Gross) Maher, Rosemary graduated from Rosati-Kain Academy in 1954. She worked for many years as a seamstress and custom drape maker. She met Leo on a blind date in 1959, and together they were longtime members of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and later St. Mark Catholic Church, where she was active in the Ladies Guild. Rosemary enjoyed crocheting, painting, and creating handmade keepsakes for her family.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her strong faith in Jesus brings comfort that she is at peace in Heaven.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 pm at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Rd., St. Louis, MO. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Mark Catholic Church, 4200 Ripa Ave., St. Louis, MO, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
