Barbaglia

In Loving Memory

Barbaglia, Joan M. (nee Maddock)

April 9, 1940 - March 22, 2025

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025.

Preceded in death by spouses, Charles A. Barbaglia and Harvey C. Voegtlin. Beloved mother of Julianne Voegtlin, Janet Baer-Lile (Mark), Gregory Voegtlin (Wendy), Amy Wagner (Glen) and Larry Barbaglia (Patty). Devoted grandmother to Emily, Jen, Justin, Sara, Gregory, Christopher, Meghan, Maddie, Kate, Michael, and Isabella. Proud great-grandmother of 12. Loving sister of Susan (Gary) Brouk, Cindy (Don) Koehler, and the late Richard (Judy) Maddock and Roy Maddock. Dear sister-in-law, aunt, Godmother, cousin, and friend to many.

Our mother was always on the go, whether that be heading to a grandchild’s sporting event, playing slots at a casino, or visiting with friends and family at her many breakfast spots. Keeping up with her social calendar was quite the chore! She loved being around her family and friends but when she was ready to go, she was ready to go! It became a joke within our family, “Where did Grandma go?” Did she leave already?!” Much like her quick escapes, she left the party of life after a short stay in orthopedic rehab. She lived nearly 85 extraordinary years with immense love, joy, and faith. As a Companion of Pauline of the Sisters of Christian Charity, mom enjoyed her spiritual retreats and being of service to others. Mom loved playing BINGO and won beautiful quilts from her beloved Seminary Picnic in Perryville, Missouri where she also loved spending time with her extended family. Our mom cherished every holiday or any reason to celebrate with those she loved, especially if it involved sweets and ice cream. While she may have grunted when it was time for just “one more group picture” at Christmastime, she loved showing off those photos of her kids wherever she went.  An avid Cardinals fan, she had an entire wardrobe devoted to her favorite team. She enjoyed going on Cardinals cruises and cheering from home while tuning into the radio. But perhaps her favorite holiday of all: Cardinals Opening Day! This year, she’s got the best seat in the house to cheer on her team! In Joan’s voice with a foam finger on one hand and a pendant in the other, “GOOOOO CARDS!”

One final wish of our mom’s was to be an organ donor, and this heroic act is yet another lasting gift she leaves behind. She was the great escape artist when it came to leaving, but this is a beautiful gift that will live on forever in the lives of others. Peace out mom, you’re in great company in Heaven!

SERVICES: We would love to have you join us for Joan’s Memorial Mass on Saturday, May 31st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church (11910 Eddie and Park Rd.). A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow at Royale Orleans (2801 Telegraph Rd.). We know our mom would love to have you wear your favorite Cardinals apparel on this day.

  1. Joan was part of our breakfast club. She would get there early so she could save a table for us! We’d hear stories about what she did that week and what deals she got at Kohls. She was aways bringing some kind of “show and tell” item. On holidays she would bring some sweet goodie and she loved to play games at our Christmas luncheon.
She certainly loved her family and was very proud of each one of them as could be seen when she would fill us in with what they were doing.
    She will be missed!!

  2. Joanie was one of the sweetest yet fiesta people I knew. She was always bringing us girls snacks into the restaurant. We always knew she would be coming in with the girls on Sundays. She was a big Cardinals fan and was always boasting on her grandkids. The last time I saw and spoke with her she was showing me an album that she had made up of her family around Christmas time. She will be missed tremendously.

  6. Joan was a very nice and enjoyed getting former co-workers and friends together after retirement. She will be missed by many from the U.S. Army Aviation and Troop Support Command in St. Louis. I too think she was up in Heaven cheering for the Cards on opening day. And they responded with a big win! I will remember her fondly.

  8. My condolences to cousin Joan ‘s family. I remember visiting Aunt Iva’s family as a child. Joan, Susan and Cindy would be there to see us. Aunt Iva was a gracious host as I recall. Cousin Joan resembles her mom so much. My dad, Marion( Bud) Cissell was very fond of cousin Joan, as was my mom Millie.
    Blessings to all of you.
