Barton, David J.

passed away suddenly on September 19, 2017 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 74.

David is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (nee Gottschalk), his daughter Aimee Alton (Paul), son Richard Barton (Alexandra), and grandchildren Bennett and Elliott Alton and Frances Nell Barton. David is also survived by his only sibling Bennett Barton (Judy). He is preceded in death by his parents Bennett and Sue Barton.

David was born on January 5, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri and  remained a lifelong resident. As a child, David went to St. George Catholic School for his early education.  After being graduated from Christian Brothers College High School in 1961, David attended Saint Louis University from which he earned a bachelor’s degree. He went on to pursue a law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law, receiving his juris doctor degree in 1970.

David married his wife Barbara on August 5, 1967, and the two recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary  surrounded by family and friends.  David never missed an  opportunity to dote on his cherished wife.

David worked as an attorney in private practice for 46 years. He served his loyal clients with charm, warmth, and kindness, and took great pride in his work.

Gregarious, fun-loving, and active, David enjoyed boating, tennis, racquetball, bowling, golf, and snow and water skiing.  He loved to travel, and his affable nature enabled him to make friends wherever he went. David was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church for 30 years and served on the parish council.  Above all, David was happiest surrounded by his family,  especially his grandchildren whom he adored.

Services: A wake is scheduled for Monday, September 25 from 4-8 p.m. at Kutis Funeral Home (10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123).  The funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 26 at 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church (5901 Kerth Road, St. Louis, MO 63128).  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the St. Vincent dePaul Society in memory of David.
