Elliott Chubb passed away on Monday, December 8, at the age of 98 years in the peaceful surroundings of his home. Cherished spouse of Mary Bockskopf Chubb. Beloved father of Andrew Elliott, Christopher Robert, and Ailan Caroline. Dear Uncle of Walston Chubb, Jr. and Catherine Chubb Pick. Predeceased by parents, R. Walston Chubb and Irene Sylvester Chubb; stepmother Lee Langenohl Chubb; sister Louise and brother Walston Chubb, Sr. as well as former wife, Dell Roberts Chubb. Brother -in- law, cousin and friend.
Elliott attended Bristol Elementary in the Webster School District prior to attending John Burroughs School. The day after graduating from JBS (class of ’44) he entered the US Navy. Upon the end of the war, he attended Harvard University (BS ’50) earning a degree in Sociology. He then attended Washington University (BS ’54, SI ’55) earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. Elliott was employed for 30 years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing, retiring in 1990. Elliott was a life long resident of St. Louis with the exception of 5 years when he worked for Hazeltine on Long Island, NY. It was there that his three children were born.
Elliott was a direct descendant of the Mayflower on his mother’s side. He greatly respected his grandfather, Percival Chubb, who was the Emeritus Leader of the Ethical Society of St.Louis during Elliott ‘s youth and young adulthood.
During his 98 years Elliott enjoyed the friendship of the many people he met, from his fourth grade lifetime friend the late Bob Sanford to frat brothers in Sigma Phi Epsilon, members of the Ethical Society chorus, the Sandwich Club, the ROMEOS, the Three Creek Bassets, the SAJE Senior Ministry crowd, and the McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Retirees Club. Opera Theater of St.Louis was a special love of his.
For years Elliott was blessed with the kind and expert care of Dr. Benjamin Voss and Dr. Stuart Higano. Most recently the BJC Hospice Team and the caregivers of Martha’s Hands provided the same kind and expert assistance for which the family is grateful. Having a great respect for science, Elliott donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine.
Arrangements for a gathering for family and friends after the holidays are pending.
