With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Treva “Joyce” Erb (née Schimmel), age 83, on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Joyce was a loving, joyful, and generous mother to Gregg R. (Kay) Erb, Carrie L. Roider, and Julie A. (Steve) Caputa; a devoted grandmother to Kaitlyn Hesseler (Mike), Sarah England (Sam), Laura Roider (Michael Slaughter), Heather Dozier (Ethan), Maria Caputa (Bryce Robinson), Melissa Fields (Taylor), Elizabeth Caputa-Hatley (Teddy), Dominic Caputa (Courtney), and Grace Caputa; and a proud great-grandmother to eight. She was preceded in death by her parents, Treva M. Leonard and Charles F. Schimmel. Joyce was also a cherished niece, aunt, cousin, and a caring and wonderful friend to many.
Joyce was the proud owner and President of Simmler, Inc., one of the few American manufacturers of maternal diagnostics. Her legacy continues through Julie and Steve Caputa. She was a faithful member of St. Catherine Labouré Parish.
Her greatest joy was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Joyce expressed her love through sewing, embroidery, and crocheting that will be treasured for generations. She was an accomplished dancer, having grown up dancing at the Concord Farmers Club. She was a self-proclaimed “chocoholic,” Joyce also enjoyed traveling and playing bridge.
We remember Joyce today with gratitude and love, celebrating a beautiful life and the countless ways she made the world a better place.
