Beloved husband of Mary Eubanks (nee Ulrich); loving father of Steven (Carol) Eubanks, Karen (Tim) Donnelly and the late Richard Allen Eubanks and Charles David (surviving Mary) Eubanks; adoring grandfather of Julia (Todd) Ringkamp and Michael M. Eubanks; cherished great-grandfather of Charlie, Nora and Teddy Ringkamp. Our dearest uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.
Charlie was an engineer by trade. He loved designing, building, and solving problems. He worked at Baldor Electric for 30 years. When he wasn’t working, he was building and flying his airplanes.
His first airplane was hit by a car back in the late 50’s. Years later his friend and co-owner told him that he had a lot of the parts in his basement and garage from their plane. Charlie decided to take all of the parts and he rebuilt the plane. He eventually sold that plane and built his first experimental plane, which he built in the basement in their Ballwin home. He eventually moved the plane to Creve Cour Airport to finish it. He had a hanger at Creve Cour for many years, tinkering and flying as much as possible.
When he retired, his dream was to live on an airstrip. That dream came true when Charlie and Mary built a home and hanger in 1994 in Troy Air Park. Charlie would end up building two more experimental planes while living in Troy. You would find him out in the hanger or down in the basement working on something. Over the years, the town of Troy grew, as well as Troy Air Park, so did Charlie and Mary’s group of friends. Other pilots would come to Charlie needing a solution to a problem or a unique part. Charlie would get on his CAD system and design and make the part for them. As you may expect, he had a lot of machinery in their basement to build all these planes. One plane had over 80,000 rivets, all done by hand. He even did all the upholstery using his mother-in-law’s sewing machine.
Besides flying, Charlie and Mary were devout Catholics at Holy Infant in Ballwin and Sacred Heart in Troy. Charlie and Mary were very active in their church, Knights of Columbus, counting offerings every week and giving their time to many functions. Father Tom, who is officiating the mass, is a dear friend of more than 20 years.
Thank you for attending today and for all your thoughts and prayers during this time.
