Houston

In Loving Memory

Houston Jr., Frank R.

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Beloved husband of Donna Houston (nee Kuehner) for 46 years; loving father of Frank (Becky) Houston, Kelly Houston, Matt (Bonus) Houston, Jill (Shawn Wainman) Houston and the late Mary Houston; adoring grandfather of Frankie, Parker and Mason; cherished son of the late Frank and Eileen Houston; dear brother of Maureen Houston, Mark Houston and the late Kathleen Houston. Our dearest brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Frank was born and grew up in North St. Louis where his love for sports originated. His nickname “Bones” was one that started there and has stayed with him his entire life. He met his wife Donna shortly after he graduated high school and they have since been inseparable.

Frank went to Ranken College and then joined Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562. He later started a mechanical contracting business, Sharp Mechanical Inc. with his friend Glenn Biekert which they ran from 1988 until the business was sold in 2008. He formed many professional and personal relationships throughout his career that continued throughout his life.

Baseball was his love from a young age. His determination, drive, discipline, and athleticism made him an incredible player. He went on to play semi-pro baseball for Buds, but an injury prevented him from continuing his dream. He continued his passion for baseball through coaching multiple teams during his children’s sports careers. He was honored by being inducted into the Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Frank was a dedicated and loving family man. Spending time with his family and being a Papa to his grandchildren were the greatest joys of his life. He touched the lives of innumerable people largely due to the fact that he was kind, funny, selfless, charitable, and always fun to be around. You could catch him at Cardinal games, hanging with the Keno Club on Fridays, riding his bike on the Katy trial, helping his kids around their houses, and with his grandchildren every Saturday morning for Doughnut Saturdays.

His fight against ALS was short, but he did it with such grace, courage, and fight.  He will never be forgotten and his legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren.

Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Thursday, February 16 from 4-8 pm. then on Friday, February 17 at Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church (350 E. Fourth St. Eureka, Mo. 63025) from 10:30 am. until funeral Mass time at 11:30 am. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery will be held in private. Contributions to A.L.S. Association appreciated.

I had the pleasure of meeting Frank while he worked with Delmar Gardens. I always looked forward to his visits to Kansas City.
Frank was wonderful at telling stories and teaching me a thing or two about the mechanics of our HVAC system. He was an excellent teacher and someone I grew to call a friend.
His love for his family was abundantly obvious and he always had an update on how his wife, kids, and grandkids were doing. Anyone around could see the pride in his face when he spoke of his family.
Prayers to Frank’s family that the memories you hold dear to your hearts will help you through this tremendous time of loss. He was a great man and will surely be missed!
