Janet Mae Luhning, born May 26, 1947, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at the age of 78 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Jan, as she was lovingly known to family and friends, was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose strength and kindness touched the lives of many. Some of her happiest moments were spent tending her beautiful garden in St. Louis Hills and enjoying summer months surrounded by family on Little Pine Lake in Minnesota. She often greeted lake mornings with a cup of coffee on the porch, listening to her beloved loons welcome the day. You could always find her in the stands or audience, proudly wearing school colors as she cheered on her sons and grandsons in their sporting and musical events. She loved oldies music, curling up on the couch with her dog Charlie, dancing when the perfect song came on, and taking pontoon rides at sunset on the lake.
She leaves behind her loving sons and daughters-in-law, who were the pride of her heart — Chris and Felicia, Ryan and Cynthia, and J.D. and Aisling — as well as her grandsons, Troy and Travis, who were the center of her world. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Wade, and her brother, Joe Neudeck. She was preceded in death by her sister, B.J. Neudeck.
Jan’s life was defined by compassion, gratitude for those around her, the gardens she nurtured, and the relationships she cherished. She will be fondly remembered for her bright smile, open heart, and her constant reminder that she was always “loving us more.”
