Opich, Carl, 95, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home in St. Louis.
Carl was born to Mike and Mary Opich in Madison, Illinois on December 5, 1921. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Acorn Division at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. After his military service, Carl worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for 39 years until his retirement in 1980. He and his beloved wife Shirley were married on July 9, 1949.
Carl is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Shirley (née Motte) Opich; daughter Sharon Hood and husband Charlie; daughter Rose Dowell and husband Garreth; daughter-in-law Becky Opich; grandchildren Jolene Hood Ashcraft and husband Daniel, Jeffrey Hood, Dan & Zack Dowell, and Michael, Randy & Alice Opich; sister Sylvia (Dolly) Opich; along with many dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son John Opich and seven brothers and sisters.
Services: Funeral from Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., on Monday, April 10, 10:00 AM to St. Matthias Catholic Church for 10:30 AM mass. Interment J.B. National Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 4-8 PM
