In Loving Memory

Solomon, Fred

August 12, 1926 - December 5, 2025

Fred Solomon, 99, of Affton, MO, passed peacefully on December 5, 2025.  He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Eva Solomon and his sister Millie.  Fred leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Theresa (Terri) R. Solomon (nee Stolzer).  Born in St. Louis City, MO, Fred was also a caring stepfather to three children: Linda L. Hughes (nee Stolzer), Barbara J. Stolzer and David (Lisa) J. Stolzer.  He also leaves behind an expansive group of grandchildren: Kimberly (Paul) Kosednar, Jennifer (Carlos) Gomez, Leon Stolzer, Sarah (Blake) Nickel and Rosemary (Tim) Bolton.  He is also loved by 14 great grandchildren: Hannah, Mila, Camden, Evelynne, Micah, Colten, Elias, Matias, Kenzie, Gabriel, Maybrie, Thaddeus, Atticus and Silas.

Fred lived his entire life in St. Louis.   He attended Soldan High School downtown.   Fred joined the United States Navy in 1944 and worked on an LSD 750 naval ship.  He traveled to many locations including the islands of Hawaii, China and Japan to deliver war supplies.  After his two years in the military, Fred then came back to St.  Louis and took a job working once again for the government in the records center.  He worked for close to 25 years before deciding to retire early.  He then earned his operator’s license (LSD) and began to drive the school bus for Ryder Student Transportation.  Then, Fred wanted to contribute more to help in his community and began to drive the elderly living in Bethesda Orchard.  Not a man for sitting still in retirement; Fred continued to work until the age of 80.  He also walked in the South County Mall in his spare time.

Fred and Terri met in 1971.  The Carpenter’s Hall on Hampton Avenue was the place for dancing and live bands for enjoyment.  Terri remembers looking across the room and seeing Fred and feeling like she had known him her entire life.  When the ladies choice came around for dancing, Terri approached Fred and asked, “Are you gonna nurse that drink all night?” and she pulled him to the dance floor and discovered that Fred was an excellent dancer.  They continued to see one another off and on for the next few months out dancing, until Fred finally worked up the nerve to call Terri and ask for a date in his new car.  The rest is history.

Married in the Lutheran church in 1972, Fred and Terri stayed in Affton for their entire lives in the same home in St. George Village. Remarried in the Catholic church in 2002, Fred and Terri continued to grow their family in love and memories for an incredible 53+ years together.  Fred was also a huge fan of his beloved Cardinals baseball team, Snickers bars, Pepsi soda, coconut creme pies, new colognes and anything sweet.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Affton Society Oakland House in the name of Fred Solomon.
