John Morelli Mattler, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed peacefully on February 12, 2026, at the age of 93. A man of vision, dedication, and deep passion, John lived a full and remarkable life centered on family, entrepreneurship, and lifelong interests that brought him great joy.
Born on August 4, 1932, John was the beloved son of Adolph and Gertrude Mattler and the cherished brother of Joseph Mattler. From an early age, he displayed a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit that would define much of his life’s journey.
John proudly owned and operated a successful business for over 50 years, building not only a livelihood but a legacy of perseverance and integrity. His love for the motion picture industry led him to own and operate his own movie theatre, creating a place where stories came alive and memories were made for countless families in his community.
Beyond business, John was a man of passionate interests. He had a deep appreciation for German aviation and was an avid and award-winning stamp collector. His dedication to philately earned him numerous awards from the German Philatelic Society, a testament to both his knowledge and enthusiasm for the craft.
Above all, John’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was the beloved husband of Ann Mattler, with whom he shared almost 70 wonderful years of marriage. A devoted father to Mike (Debbie), Jeff, Greg, and Lori. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jaime; Chris (Rebecca); Michelle (Brandon); Jason (affectionately known as “Slick #1”); and Josh (“Slick #2”). His legacy continues through his treasured great-grandchildren: Morgan, Michael, Addy, Odin, Brenna, Ben and Elena.
As we celebrate his 93 years, we honor a life well lived and a man deeply loved. His memory will continue to inspire and guide all who knew him.
