Stewart,  Jo Marie

(nee Lawrence). 86, of Oakville, passed away peacefully Feb. 11, 2017, surrounded by her family.  She was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Athens, AL, the youngest of nine children of James Lawrence, an immigrant from Mytilene, Greece, and Fannie Coulter. She graduated high school in Hampton, VA.   She married Harry Lloyd Stewart of Laurel, MS, July 28, 1951, and they shared 53 years together until his death in 2004. The couple lived in Starkville, MS; Greensboro, NC;  Mobile, AL; Belton, MO, settling in St. Louis (Oakville) in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her husband and eldest daughter Jane. She is survived by seven of eight children: Jeanne (Greg) Hultgren, Lenexa, KS; Ginger (Brooks) LaRowe, Fenton; Nancy (Marc) Hoopingarner, Apex, NC; Bob (Liz) Stewart,  Charlotte, NC; Philip (Lesa) Stewart, Oakville; Laura (Robert) Graham, Porter, TX; and Marti (Michael) Peeler, Denham Springs, LA. Also by 18 grandchildren: Ashley (Matt) Sekula,  Katie (Craig) Rutledge, Kim Hultgren; Sally (Chad) Baker, Mary Jane (fiancé Tyler Stewart) LaRowe; Melissa and Caleb Hoopingarner: Philip (Lynsi) Stewart, Rachel and Samuel Stewart;  Gregory Stewart, James Lupo, Kristina (Jared) Crowley, Emily Kearns; Claire and James Graham; and Stewart and Matt Peeler. Five great-grandchildren: Jimmy and Jack Sekula; and Brock, Hunter and Wyatt Rutledge.

Jo was an active member of Concord Baptist Church, working in first grade Sunday School more than 25 years and serving in WMU and her Sunday School class.

Services: Visitation at Concord Church, 13775 Tesson Ferry Rd., Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. with services immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
