Leo Abeln

In Loving Memory

Abeln, Leo Robert Jr.

July 24, 1936 - September 1, 2024

Leo Robert Abeln Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, on September 1, 2024, at the age of 88.  He was married for 62 years to Rosemary (nee Maher).

Proud father of three sons; Douglas L. Abeln (Julie), David J. Abeln (Susan) and Timothy J. Abeln (Nicole).  Beloved brother of Georgia Horne and David Abeln and brother in-law of Joseph Rausch.  Preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Rausch, brother in-law Bill Horne and sisters-in-law Verna Abeln and Marcy Abeln.

Loving grandfather of five grandsons:  Alec (fiancé Hayden Miles) Abeln, Cullen (fiancé Avery Buck) Abeln, Ryan Abeln, Derek Abeln and Justin Abeln.   Loving uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and dear friend to many.

Leo was born in Saint Louis, Missouri to Leo and Elizabeth (nee Freund) Abeln.  Leo was a 1954 graduate of St. Mary’s High School and a Coast Guard Reservist. Leo worked for 41 years for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 562.  Leo and Rosemary met on a blind date in 1959.  They were long-time members of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and most recently St. Mark Catholic Church.  Leo volunteered for many positions in the Church, most notably as an active member of the Men’s Club and a coach for youth sports.   Leo was an avid fisherman and master at bar-b-que.   Leo’s famous pork ribs were the main attraction at bar-b-ques with family and friends.  Leo enjoyed reading, playing pinochle and watching old westerns.

We will miss our husband, father and grandfather and find joy knowing that he loved us so much.  We are comforted because his strong faith and love of Jesus has led to his final resting place in Heaven.
