Barton Dwight Abercrombie

September 17, 1944 – May 28, 2025

Barton Dwight Abercrombie, age 80, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his home on May 28, 2025.

Born to the late Merle Chester (MC) and Betty Abercrombie, and brother to the late Tyler Abercrombie. Bart was the beloved husband of Theresa Abercrombie; loving father of Christopher Abercrombie (Jennifer), Stacy Harp (Matthew), and Jason Abercrombie (Kellie); proud grandfather of Lauren and Andrew Abercrombie; Lainey and Colton Harp; and MaryJane and Jackson Abercrombie.

A lifelong fan of sports and enthusiastic supporter of all his children’s and grandchildren’s games and performances. He helped launch the first football boosters’ program at both Mehlville and Lindbergh High Schools. Bart’s true passion was baseball(softball). From Khoury League to American Legion, Bart found great joy in coaching, teaching the game, and passing on his love for it to future generations. “Coach Bart” was the best coach, friend, and mentor to so many.

He had a green thumb and talent for landscaping that showed in every house he made a home.   Bart had a deep appreciation for a Cardinal game, a good nap, butter on a fresh slice of Bunny bread, a good BBQ (meat may be overdone…nothing some Maull’s couldn’t cure), and he never turned down a cookie.

Bart’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness lives on in all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are greatly appreciated.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Kutis Funeral Home 10151 Gravois Rd, St. Louis, MO 63123 on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a gathering to celebrate his life at the home of his son, Jason Abercrombie (10206 Albury Ct., St. Louis, MO 63126).

  1. Dear Theresa and family,
I was sad to hear about the loss of Bart. I was Bart’s cousin on his mother’s side, Betty and my dad, (Donald Phillips) were brother and sister. Although I did not get to spend a lot of time with Bart as a kid, my parents (Don and Anne) were big fans of his and Theresa. They told me about the several times that they visited your family and how welcoming you all made them feel. Sounds like Bart was a lot like his Uncle Don who also loved baseball and if I remember correctly used to play as a teenager with Merle Abercrobmbie in McClure. I guess it goes t show the apple doesn’t far from the tree. Please accept my condolences and sympathy on your loss.

    Love,
    Bonn Phillips
