Alcorn

In Loving Memory

Alcorn, Harold Dean

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Friday, February 17, 2023.

Beloved husband for 63 years of the late Sheila Alcorn; loving father of Stacy (Alan) Davenport, Shannon (Jeffrey) Teague and the late Mark Alcorn; dear grandfather of Rhys and Jude Davenport, E. Jackson and Ayden Swiney; dear brother of the late Virginia Barton; dear brother-in-law of Michael Kern; dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Harold was born on October 29, 1934 in St. Louis, MO. Harold’s love for basketball started early in his life, and his natural ability and dedication to the game paved the way for his all-star career at McKinley High School. His collegiate career began at Southern Methodist University, but he transferred to Saint Louis University where he became a star athlete on the 1954 to 1957 teams. Harold was inducted into both the Saint Louis University Billiken and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame for his basketball accomplishments.

Harold’s other devotions were to his family, friends, faith and his many careers. His journey started with working for Phillips 66 which relocated the family to Cleveland, OH for 13 years. He eventually returned to St. Louis where he started his own businesses, Alcorn Equipment Company, owning convenience stores and Alcorn Cigars. He also bought a 700-acre ranch in Salem, MO and tried his hand at cattle farming.

Harold loved life, and perhaps more than anything he loved people. He never met a stranger and always took a genuine interest in everyone he met. If you met Harold you remembered him, and he remembered you. He will be missed greatly but it gives his family joy to know he is reunited with his wife, Sheila and son, Mark.

Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON Chapel, 10151 Gravois, Thursday, March 2, 9:15 a.m. to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church for 10:00 a.m. Mass. Entombment Resurrection Mausoleum. 2. I attended St Louis U and was fortunate to have the opportunity to watch Harold Alcorn play basketball in 1956 and 1957. St Louis U had a fast break offense and often Harold was leading the way. He was one of my favorite players. I never had the opportunity to get to know him, but he lives on in my heart.
    God bless you Harold,
    Fred C Drummond, A&S 1959 and Grad 1961
