Betty R. Barton (née Schmitt), 70, of Fenton, Missouri, passed away on May 28, 2026, in Chesterfield, Missouri. She was born on July 27, 1955, in Japan, Missouri, to Alvie and Viola Nadine Schmitt.
Throughout her life, Betty pursued more than one career, but her proudest was that of mother. She was a devoted and loving presence to all who were fortunate enough to call her family. In her free time, Betty could often be found cheering on her beloved St. Louis Cardinals, working through a crossword puzzle, sitting down with a sewing project, or singing along to her favorite Taylor Swift songs. Above all else, she cherished every moment spent with her family.
Betty was formerly married to Bernard Barton III.
She is survived by her three children, John Barton of High Ridge, Bernard Barton IV of O’Fallon, and Jennifer Recht and her husband Brian of Fenton; her siblings, Martha Hammett, Joan Schmitt, David Schmitt, and Dorothy Lukes and her husband Bob; her eight grandchildren, Eric Coats, Elizabeth Crump and her husband Keith, Jessica Easley and her husband Ryan, Garrett Barton, Addison Barton, Brody Recht, Chloe Recht, and Lucas Barton; her five great-grandchildren, Joshua Wood, Jordynn Wood, Ryann Wood, Wyatt Coats, and Liam Coats; her loving daughters-in-law, Deanna Barton and Samantha Barton; and her beloved nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Alvie and Viola Nadine Schmitt; her sister, Ellen Martin, and Ellen’s husband Joe Martin; and her brother-in-law, Jon Hammett.
Memorial visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Saturday, June 13 from 9:00 am.-12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
