January 27, 1936 - December 8, 2025

January 27, 1936 to December 8, 2025
Edwin J. “Bud” Berger, of Chesterfield MO., Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 at the age of 89; beloved companion of the late Billie Joan Chott for over 30 years, loving father of Brian K. (Nancy M.) Berger, Kevin J. (Sarah E.) Berger, Cheryl A. (Bryan D.) Barr, Steven C. Berger, Jill M. (Tim) Mattingly and the late Todd V. (wife Lorraine surviving) Berger and honorary father of Tim Delaney.
Cherished grandfather of Carl, Greg, Angela, Alex, Emily, Jacob, Alyse, Aaron, Hannah, Lauren, Andrew, Eric, Tiffany, Kyle & honorary grandfather of Conner & Chloe. Proud great grandfather of 19.
Bud loved life, family and friends. He never met a stranger. His face would light up when seeing his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved talking to them and being with them. He was so very proud of all his children. He enjoyed entertaining, especially around the holidays. Billie was the focus of his life. He was passionate about camping and driving in their motor home, touring the countryside; delighting in seeing new places (and telling us stories about them) and meeting with his motor home group. Bud was also a devoted retreatant of the White House Retreat center, a yearly 4 day Jesuit silent retreat, patterned after Saint Ignatius Loyola’s spiritual disciplines. With over 50 years of attendance, Dad’s presence as a regular there inspired and encouraged many retreatants.
Dad inspired caring for others with his love and admiration for Bille, taking care of her in her later years, even when his own physical health was failing. The last of his generation of Berger’s, he left a legacy of 3 generations to carry on the Berger family tradition of family gatherings; celebrating our love and caring for each other.
Memorial visitation will be held at Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 350 East 4th St., Eureka MO. 63025 on Friday, January 9, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Funeral procession to Resurrection Cemetery, 6901 Mackenzie Rd., Affton MO. 63123 immediately after Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to White House Retreat, in memory of Edwin “Bud” Berger at this link. whitehouseretreat.org/memorial
