Berger, Thomas “Tom” J.

April 2, 1934 - October 11, 2024

Thomas John Berger of St. Louis, Missouri passed away, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, on Friday, October 11, 2024, at age 90.  Loving husband of Linda Nottestad, beloved husband of the late Carol Berger (neé Slankard).  Beloved son of the late George and Mary (neé Hughes) Berger.  Loving father of John (Denise Fogarty Berger) Berger, Bob (Cheryl Swift) Berger and Jim (Velvet) Berger; stepfather of Dr. Vicki (Eric) Weldon, Michael (Sharon Derry) Martin and Tracey Brenner; dearest grandfather of Abigail, Joseph (Erica), Dr. Daniel (Victoria), Alanah and Bella Berger; dear great grandfather of Arianna Jones, Larenzo Fox and Keagan Thomas Berger. Preceded in death by his brother George (Theresa) Berger of Colorado; our dear uncle and friend of many at Laclede Groves.

Retired U.S. Army, Korean War era.  Tom and Carol were part of the founding members of the Wanderfern Yacht Club at Innsbrook where he enjoyed countless summer days out on the lake teaching his children, grandchildren and their friends how to sail.  Tom was also very active with the Innsbrook Historical Society and a frequent contributor of photos for publication and display at the Resort.  Tom retired from IBM more than 30 years ago and enjoyed the following years wintering in Florida, playing golf and following the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.  Most recently, he and Linda enjoyed traveling together in Europe and visiting friends in Florida.

Services planned for Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 17 Joy Ave., Webster Groves, Missouri 63119. Visitation with the family begins at 9:00 am, with a Memorial Mass at 10:00 am.  Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to a St. VIncent de Paul Society in your community or a charity of your choice

  1. Dear Linda,
    We have fond memories of Tom at Innsbrook, but we were especially looking forward to finally getting to Laclede Groves and your friendship there.
    We have talked a few times after Mass at Holy Redeemer.
    Our prayers are with you and we’re sorry for your loss
