Bergholtz, Rosemarie

In Loving Memory

Bergholtz, Rosemarie (nee Povolish)

June 28, 1931 - August 20, 2023

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

Beloved wife of the late Robert Bergholtz; dearest mother of Robert “Bob” (Lucy), Richard (Patti) Bergholtz, Cheryl (Jon) Nienas, Debra Carmody, Rosie (Greg) Zinser and the late Gary (Maribeth) Bergholtz; dear grandmother of Stephanie (Dave) Martin, Bridget (Mike) Todd, Kristopher (Deni), Gary (Lauren), Nicholas, Eric (Susan) Bergholtz, Lauren (Jason) Franklin, Jenna (Chris) Bizauskas, Michael (Jamie) Bergholtz, Amanda Zinser, Leah (Joe) Secreto, Tyler (fiance Bernadette) Nienas, Taylor (Kyle) Bialczak and Emily (Matt) Jansen; great-grandmother of 17 and 2 to come; our dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend of many.

Rosemarie Bergholtz, a devout woman of unwavering faith, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 20th at the age of 92. Born June 28th, 1931 in Ashley, IL to Frank and Mary Povolish, one of 11 children, her life journey took her through a path of faith, resilience, and profound connections. To know Rosemarie is to recognize her unwavering love for her family—a love that formed the cornerstone of her life. She was the glue that held the family together and would make friends wherever she would go. She was like a second mother to her nieces, nephews, and countless others.

With a heart dedicated to her Catholic beliefs, Rosemarie’s life was a testament to her deep connection to Jesus and His Mother Mary. She found solace in her nightly Rosary prayers and radiated a spirit of kindness and joy that touched everyone she encountered.

A true daughter of St. Louis, Rosemarie’s love for the city was evident in her unwavering support for the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. She cheered for them with passion and dedication, her heart intertwined with the spirit of the city she held dear. Her appreciation for music was as diverse as her interests, ranging from the energetic beats of rock and roll to the soothing melodies of slow love songs.

Rosemarie’s sweet tooth was no secret, with Ted Drewes frozen custard holding a special place in her heart. Her love for life’s simple pleasures was a reflection of her gentle and contented spirit. She was a beacon of positivity, spreading happiness wherever she went.

In 1992, Rosemarie faced the loss of her beloved husband, Robert Bergholtz, who had been her partner for 42 years. Together, they nurtured a family that became the center of their lives. Their legacy of love expanded to include her six children—Bob, Gary (deceased), Richard, Cheryl, Debbie, and Rosie—along with 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 more great-grandchildren along the way.

As we bid farewell to Rosemarie, we’d also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers Daryllyn and Agnes. Their generosity and unwavering support were a beacon of light during Rosemarie’s later years.

Funeral Friday, August 25, 9:30 a.m. from Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque for a 10:00 a.m. Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Visitation Thursday 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
