James Michael Boyd “Mike,” 77, of Imperial, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, son, and daughter following an almost four-year battle with glioblastoma.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 54 years, Sidney Elaine (Brady) Boyd; his children, Gregory Michael (Christy) Boyd and Melissa Jane (Boyd) Findley (Lee); and his five beloved grandchildren Paul Henry Goessling, Peyton Boyd, Andrew Findley, Parker Goessling, and Alexandra Findley.
Mike was born to Robert and Glenda Josephine (Belken) Boyd and grew up in Farmington, Missouri, as the second youngest in a family of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law Elroy and LaVerne Brady. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Robert “Bob” and George and his sister Mary (Boyd) Jones; his brothers-in-law: Allen Early, Gary Galemore, and Elroy Brady; and his sisters-in-law Barbara Boyd and Nancy (Brady) Galemore. He is survived by his brother Charles Boyd (and wife Rita), and sister Jane (Boyd) Early. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Mary Lou (Klinkhardt) Brady and, Alicia “Gray” Boyd, and his brother-in-law Doug Jones. Mike was blessed with a large extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he dearly loved.
After serving in the U.S. Army including two tours of duty during the Vietnam War, Mike dedicated 36 years of service to Missouri Natural Gas Company/Laclede Gas Company. He was respected at work for his strong work ethic and determination. Mike was known to his friends and family as a “get-it-done” kind of guy. He had skillsets that ranged from fixing and even rebuilding cars to home repairs. Mike was always willing to lend a helping hand and took pride in his home and lawn.
Faith and family were at the core of Mike’s life. He and Sidney built a beautiful life together first in Arnold and later in Imperial, always thanking God for their many blessings in their nightly prayers. As a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial, Mike was a man of quiet but steadfast faith.
Mike was immensely proud of his grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. He loved watching them grow, supporting their sporting events, and celebrating their milestones. He passed down his love of tools and craftsmanship to his grandson Drew and his quick wit to his grandson Peyton. His granddaughter, Ali, held a special place in his heart and had the honor of helping care for him, a role she embraced with love and devotion. Mike was also blessed with two bonus grandsons, Paul Henry and Parker. He took great joy in watching them grow into the amazing young men they are today.
Though he was a man of few words, Mike’s presence was always felt. He was strong, kind, and full of wisdom. His family and friends will miss him dearly but will carry his love, lessons, and laughter with them forever.
The Boyd family sincerely thanks everyone who has offered prayers and support throughout Mike’s journey. A special thank you to his caregiver, Ted, for his kindness and dedication.
