Lawrence Bratcher, Jr., affectionately known as Larry, passed away on September 11, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on July 15, 1938, in St. Louis, Larry was the beloved son of Arthur Lawrence Bratcher and Olga Wilson, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his brothers, Don and Mike Bratcher and his best friend of eighty years, Charlie Walters.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Marge Bratcher(Saputo), with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Their shared journey began on Larry’s birthday and the day he graduated from the Police Academy-day destined to be filled with celebration and love. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children Larry Bratcher III(Chip)and his wife Gayin, Patti Zerega and her husband Dick, and Paul and his wife Sue. Larry’s legacy continues through his grandchildren Larry Bratcher IV,Benjamin Joseph, Erin Hardin, Katie Kabbaz, Mary O’Grady, and Brynn Bratcher, as well as his great-grandchildren Hannah, Mya, Aubrey, Casey, Radley, and Cole.
Larry graduated from Central High School in 1957 and served honorably in the Army Reserves. He dedicated 24 years of his life to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, where he was known for his integrity and dedication. After retiring from the police force, he continued his commitment to service by working in security for Boeing Aircraft for 14 years.
A man of many interests, Larry was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in fly tying, fly fishing, camping, canoeing and bicycling. His blue eyes sparkled with enthusiasm, especially when recounting adventures with Marge, including their unforgettable anniversary trip to Hawaii. Larry enriched the lives of many through his active involvement as a BSA Scout Master and coach, and later as a volunteer at the St. Louis Science Center.
Services: Family and friends are invited to celebrate Larry’s life at a service to be held on September 26, 2026, with visitation at 9:00 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, located at 5020 Rhodes Ave, St. Louis, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army in Larry’s memory. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the residents and staff of Delmar Gardens Villas South and Pathways Hospice for their compassionate care during Larry’s final weeks.
Larry’s memory will forever be cherished by all who loved him.
