Beloved wife of the late Larry C. Brown Sr. for 58 years; loving mother of Susan (Ralph) Capriano and Larry (Vicki) Brown Jr.; adoring grandmother of Philip (Jackie) Capriano, Neil (Lauren) Brown, Daniel Brown, Vincent Capriano and Joseph Capriano, cherished great-grandmother of Sophia, Charlotte, Juliete, Owen, Addie and Theo. Our dearest aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend to many.
Gwen was born in the city of St. Louis in 1931. She was the 13th child and youngest in her large family.
Gwen was married to Larry Brown in 1951. They were married for 58 years. They had a daughter, Susan and a son, Larry Brown Jr. born in 1958, Susan, Jan. 17 and Larry Jr. Dec 18.
She worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation as a description deed writer for excess land. She retired from there in 1996.
Gwen and Larry both loved to travel and went to Hawaii, Cancun Mexico, England, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and cruised the Mediterranean along with many historical sites in many states in the United States.
Gwen loved going to Las Vegas and taking bus trips to casinos in Tunica, Mississippi and various other states.
Gwen and Larry also took dancing lessons and learned many different dance steps. They would frequently go out dancing with their friends.
Gwen’s hobbies included gardening, reading, traveling, tole painting, sewing and baking. She loved playing cards and rummikub with her dear friends at Friendship Village
Gwen also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Wednesday, May 3 from 4-7 pm. with Funeral Service on Thursday, May 4 at 10:00 am. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
What a beautiful soul! Gentle, thoughtful, sweet and unassuming. I write with gratitude for her many years with Church of the Advent and her ministry with the Altar Guild. So glad that I got to know her and hear her love for her grandsons, especially.

We will miss Seeing Gwen ‘s smiling face at Advent Episcopal church. She was a part of our women’s group for years. We will not be able to attend her funeral, but send our deepest sympathy to her family. . Rest in peace dear one! We know you are already in heaven. Ralph and Mary Peck.
