Richard P. Burgdorf had been involved with and loved Hudsons for all of his life. His family owned a Hudson Dealership from 1941 to 1957, which was the last Hudson dealership in the metropolitan St. Louis area. Dick and his wife Edith were among the first to join the Hudson Club in 1959. During the 1960’s and 70’s Dick organized and ran a parts locator service for the Hudson Club. This service connected a large number of Hudson owners with the parts they desperately needed. Dick and Edith sponsored the 1968 National Meet in St. Louis. Dick was instrumental the Gateway Chapter hosting the 1991 National Meet in St. Louis. And Dick was heavily involved in the Gateway Chapter hosting three Central Regional Meets: Saint Louis, Springfield and Collinsville, Illinois. At various times, Dick served as Treasurer, Newsletter Editor and President of his Chapter. He served six years as HET Central Region Director (1999-2005). In 2014 Dick was appointed by the President of the Hudson Club as Election Commissioner and he retired from that position in December 2020. Dick chaired the Finance Committee for the Hudson Club for several years beginning in 2000. Dick has owned many Hudsons in his lifetime. In July 2021 Dick received the D.C. “Doc” and Thelma Daugherty Memorial Award, which is given to those who have performed outstanding service to the HET Club through efforts at either the chapter, regional or international levels.
Dick and Edith were lifetime members of the Hudson Historical Society and Dick served as Treasurer for 17 years (1998-2015). He always insisted that his books and records be financially reviewed or “audited.”
Dick spent most of his business career in the area of Data Processing where he worked for Monsanto Company and the American Soybean Association. He was responsible for the computer and information systems in their international operations. He met many international Hudson Club members and rode in Hudsons in Belgium, Australia and other countries. He was married to Edith and together they raised four children. Edith taught kindergarten for 25 years. She passed on June 27, 2017. Dick passed on December 17, 2024 at the age of 92. May they both Rest in Peace.
