In Loving Memory

Campbell, Ralph Walter

Ralph Walter Campbell  Wednesday, April 26, 2023.  Loving husband of Virginia Campbell (nee: Vogt) for 50 years; beloved father of Corby (Lisa) Campbell and Christina (Roger) Ross; proud papa of Katlyn, Samuel, Chloe, Carson, Kaden, Connor and Annalyse; loving brother of Dave (Sandy) Todd, Dennis (Lorraine) Campbell, Debra (Greg) Rudder, Robert (Jeanna) Todd, Glendale (Anita) Todd, Harriet (Roland) Kramer, Debbie Todd, Sharon Campbell and the late Jack (survived by Lee) Todd, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.

Ralph was devoted to his family, community and country. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Navy. He was a decorated police officer with the St Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD). During his time with the SLMPD he was assigned to various units including the 4th district, the Detectives Bureau and the Bureau of Investigations Homicide Division, where he spent over 20 years. Ralph was also very proud of his time with the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad serving as an investigator, report writer and squad supervisor for over 25 years. After dedicating 34 years to his community, Ralph retired from the SLMPD in 2008. After retirement is when Ralph found his ultimate joy in life, spending unlimited time with his most cherished commodity, his family.  During this time you could often find him at the little league baseball fields, the soccer fields, the ice rink or theater stage, in his full time roll as a season ticket holder to his grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities. Ralph’s love and dedication to his family was unmatched.  Cheers, we have it from here!

Funeral at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Road Tuesday, May 2, 10:30am.  Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to BackStoppers, American Diabetes Foundation or American Cancer Society.  Visitation Monday 3 to 8pm.

  35. We were shocked to hear the news of Ralph’s passing. He was always so full of energy and life. I think it came from the love he had for his family and friends. You couldn’t have picked a better picture of him, that big smile and happy soul. I can hear that chuckle of his now. I know you will all miss him but he isn’t going anywhere. He will always be watching over his family. I sat and talked with mom about the memories of sitting around the kitchen table or ball games. Our condolences to all of you

  49. Blessings and condolences to the Campbell family. I was privileged to meet Ralph as a rookie cop and he was kind to me when he didn’t have any reason to be. Over the first ten years of my career, Ralph was a mentor and friend to me, giving me career advice and investigative guidance. I was fortunate enough to serve on the Major Case Squad with Ralph, and follow in his footsteps in the SLMPD Homicide Section, where he left a lasting mark. Godspeed, Ralphie. I know the beer is even more ice cold in heaven and you’ll leave some back for me in the hoosier cooler.

He was always ‘close’ either physically or personally during our career together. One of the truly good ones that I will miss. Love you my friend.

  57. Ralph was a great person. Early in my career he was one of the few people who helped me and always treated me with respect. He was a true mentor and friend. His sense of humor and positive attitude got us through many a long homicide investigation. I will always remember his kindness and generosity.
