In Loving Memory

Cannon, Gordon Roger

August 14, 1959 - December 28, 2025

Gordon Roger Cannon, 66, passed away on December 28, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on August 14, 1959.

Roger dedicated his life to helping and protecting others through a long and honorable career in law enforcement. During his time with the ISP, Roger served as a Trooper and later as a driving and CDL instructor and inspector. His commitment to safety, professionalism, and mentorship left a lasting impact on those he worked with and the communities he served. He retired with pride after many years of service.

Outside of his career, Roger found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time in Florida, cherished his dogs Casper and Sissy, his horses, and he enjoyed the open road on his motorcycle. He was known for his steady presence, kind heart, and devotion to his family.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Cannon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Corby Esarey Cannon; his mother, Patricia Cannon; his son, Joshua Cannon; and his sisters, Cindy Thompson (Bill) and Julia Moore (Steve). He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Ashley, her husband Clayton, and his two beloved granddaughters, Emery and Ella, who brought him immense joy, Stepson Jack Fouts and grandson Syllas.

Roger will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of service, love, and quiet strength will live on in the lives he touched.

Gravesite rites will be performed in Petersburg IN at a later date.

  5. I was a brand new State Trooper assigned to Pike County in 1984 and Rodger was a new deputy. I was lucky he was around because he could fill me in on who was who in Pike County and since he hadnt been to the Police Academy yet, I could help with some of the police stuff. Mostly we learned as we went. We did a lot of dumb things a few that were dangerous, and we helped each other out. I loved listening to him tell a story with his arms moving the whole time. We had a lot of fun along the way. One night we got a call to a injury crash and I was behind Rodger. I couldn’t keep up with him and I never saw his brake lights at all. I told Sgt Nelson my car was crap and couldn’t keep up with the old SD car. He laughed, “It’s not the car Troop, you were trying to keep up with a real race car driver.” I was lucky to know Rodger adn I am sorry to hear of his passing. Rest in peace brother!

  8. Roger was a good friend and a fellow Trooper too many details to mention here. He had an infectious laugh. I worked with him for 25 years plus. I will miss him. We spoke a few months ago, he told me he knew his time was coming to an end. He told me he had made things right with the Lord and he knew heaven awaited him when the end of life would come. I say not good bye but until the day I see you again.. Rest and be comforted in the arms of our Lord Roger.

  9. Roger was a very dedicated trooper. I came to know him when he was assigned to CVED. His dedication to his job to ensure school buses were in good operating shape for the transportation of school children was always superior. He also never forgot he was a Indiana State Police Trooper and and continued to serve the public as a police officer in all aspects of a policeman’s role. He was always fun loving and ready to help if you needed it. Rest in Peace loyal and faithful trooper.

  11. We took to Rodger right off after meeting him. His laugh and smile we will never forget. Always looked forward to the conversations we would have when we was able to get together. We agreed on so many things ! He had a quiet demeanor though that was deceiving . His stories ! You’d never guess the things he’d seen over the years, specially as a State Trooper, one could only imagine ! We will always be eternally grateful for the time the lord gave him to Corby and the rest of our family . Heaven definitely gained a keeper.

  12. I could not have asked for a better room mate in the Indiana State Police Academy. Although we did not keep in touch that often after we graduated, I would think of him often. What a great guy. You will be missed. Rest in peace.
