John A. Carrier, Jr, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2020 in St. Louis, MO.
John was born on February 6, 1941 in Mexico, MO, to John Sr. and Mamie Lee Carrier. He graduated from Mehlville High School in 1959. John served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, working as a Communications Specialist.
John married Dottie Jockish on September 14, 1968. They lived in Oakville, MO, and had four children: Jeff, Brian, David and Kelly. He worked in the soft drink industry and retired in 2000. John spent most of his retirement at his beloved home at the Lake of the Ozarks. He could usually be found relaxing on the dock, listening to the Oldies and watching his family swim and fish.
John was a talented guitarist who played professionally for many years. He liked vintage cars and racing. John was an avid reader, and loved learning about history (specifically Native American) and true crime. Johnny Character will best be remembered for his silly sense of humor and his ability to fall asleep in any place and at any time. John was a loving father and a hard-working role model who was proud of his family. He will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his children Jeff, Brian and Kelly; and his grandsons Cole and Jeremiah. He is predeceased by his son David, wife Dottie (Jockish), his father John, his mother Mamie Lee and his brother Joe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the National Kidney Foundation or H.E.R.O.E.S. Care.
Services: A memorial gathering will be held at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd., Saturday, February 22, from 12 Noon until time of Service 2 p.m. Interment Monday, February 24, 2 p.m. at J.B. National Cemetery (meeting at cemetery office 1:45 p.m.)
