In Loving Memory

Cochran, Rebecca DeAnn “Becca”

Rebecca DeAnn Cochran, nee Powell, AKA Becca, was born at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Crystal City, MO, on May 7th, 1998.  She passed on July 10th, 2024 at de Greeff Hospice House, St. Louis, MO after an almost three-year brave battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Becca overcame many obstacles in her young life.  Yet, she loved many things.  She attended Hillsboro High School and graduated in 2017.  She loved all kinds of music, so, of course choir was her favorite subject.  Even though she loved Mrs. Darian and the small class of “life skills” students that she was with all four years of high school.   She loved being involved with Special Olympics, especially playing basketball.  She loved all people with challenges and special needs.  While in high school helping at Jeffco College, she met the love of her life, Destry Cochran, which she married after high school.

She loved going to the Zoo and seeing all animals, except snakes.  She loved spending time outdoors, with her dog, Doc, and her cat, Theodore.  Since she loved music so much, she was able to attend two Ed Sheeran concerts, which was her absolute favorite and Elvis, a distant second.  One in St. Louis, the night before she married, and one in Nashville, TN after her second diagnosis, that her cancer had spread. (It was a surprise visit arranged by her stepmom, Pam).  She also liked the STL Cardinals, especially Albert Pujols.  She loved all Disney movies, her favorite being “Stitch”.  And was a fan of Chicago Fire, especially Kelly Severide.  She absolutely adored her nephew and niece, Ryder and Rhea.

She is survived by her husband, Destry Cochran, II.  Her dad, Alvin Powell and stepmom, Pam.  She has one sibling, Tyler (Destiny) Powell.  Her mother-in-law, Michelle (Joe) Orsega and father-in-law, Destry Cochran, Sr.  Her grandmother, Linda Fritzius, and Dave & Lea Thomlison.  Her brother-in-law, Dalton Cochran and sisters-in-law Marissa (Erik) Burstert and Jada Cochran.  Her aunt, Peggy Schuebel.  Her uncles, Sam Rallo and Earl Koenig.  Her nephew, Ryder Powell and niece, Rhea Powell.  She has many, many church friends that are like family to her.  Too many to mention them all, but special mention to Carolyn Vaughn, “like a grandmother”, Linda Wessel, “her special” and Jeannie Ratliff, “like an aunt”.

She was preceded in death by her Dear Mother, Kim Powell.  Also, her maternal grandparents, Wanda (Dewayne) Duncan and Hoover Delbridge.  Her paternal grandparents, Betty (Marion) Thurman and Roy Powell.  Also, her uncle and aunt Andy and Liz Powell and her aunts Pam Rallo and Sherry Koenig.

Becca is gone from this life, but certainly will not be forgotten by many.  Becca has been cremated.  Due to her cancer, she was only able to donate her eyes.  One or two will be able to see better and they make ear drums out of the whites for young children.  A Memorial Service will take place at the Arnold Church of Christ, 2267 Scott, Arnold, MO  63010, on Sunday, August 4, 2024, led by Dan Curry.  Visitation 1pm – 2:30pm.  Services at 2:30pm with meal for all, after services at the building.  For those that can/are willing, we ask that you wear something with Purple, in honor of Becca’s favorite color.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gateway to Hope, 3114 Sutton Blvd, Maplewood, MO  63143; de Greeff Hospice House, C/O Charity Fund, 10024 Kennerly Road, St. Louis, MO  63128; Pedal the Cause, 9288 Dielman Industrial Dr., Olivette, MO  63132, or any cancer fund raising organization of your choice.

    • Thank you, Mrs. Darian for visiting Rebecca and all the years working with her at HHS. Those were the happiest days of her life. She recants over and over all the things that happened during those years of her life. She loved you, her classmates, choir, Special Olympics and the whole experience of HHS. I will be forever grateful for the memories. Hope you can attend her service.

  3. Becca was a sweetheart. We first met her during an annual family camping trip when she and Destry began dating. She was quiet and sweet and just fit with the family. She and Destry Jr. lit up when they were with each other. She will be deeply missed in the family. May her memory always be a blessing.
