passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026.
Loving husband of Janet Conrow (nee Breuer) of 52 years; beloved father of Karen (Eric) Kappel and Lauren (Joseph) Smith; dearest grandpa of Benjamin and Abigail Kappel, Ronan and Gunnar Smith; our dear brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend of many.
Steve was born in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he became a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. Joining the Coast Guard in 1968, Steve served his country honorably, with his service eventually bringing him to St. Louis, Missouri, where he retired from the military. While there, Steve met the love of his life, Janet Breuer, and together they began a life and family with the births of their daughters, Karen and Lauren — a family that would endure over many years and several grandkids.
Steve loved sharing his passions with his family and was a hero to them, never missing an event or sport they participated in. His many interests included horseshoes, knife collecting, the St. Louis Blues, and his beloved country property, where with the help of many friends, they built a cabin from the ground up — his happy place.
Steve will be dearly missed by those who knew him and loved him.
Visitation Tuesday, August 25, 10:00 a.m. until departing Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Rd. at 12:00 NOON for a Service at 12:30 pm at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Steve and Janet Conrow were our neighbors for 38 years. We are so sorry to hear that Steve passed and will miss seeing him at the picnic table on the patio staying busy with family projects. We know Janet and family have fond memories of family gatherings with Steve.

Steve was a coworker of mine for 30 plus years plus a fellow Affton resident until we moved to Oakville. We attended the Affton parade together and met Jan, Karen and Lauren. Steve was also a very talented horseshoe player, played in MO state tournaments and invited me to play in an indoor league for a couple of years. We also traveled periodically to various horse races, dog races and casinos with another fellow worker and his wife.
We eventually moved out of state but still exchanged Christmas cards (enjoyed theirs which were Conrow family pictures) plus communicated otherwise periodically.

Lord, we take comfort in knowing that Steve has arrived in Your presence, free from pain and suffering. Be with us Lord, as we each, in our own way, mourn the loss of Steve, and celebrate the life that You gave to him. I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Steve. I really enjoyed working with him at Nooter/Eriksen and enjoyed the time we both shared attending conferences together. I know you loved all the adventures and especially the San Diego trips. Sorry we couldn’t have attended the visitation as we ar
