Wade Ellis Cross, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on April 10, 1933, in Iberia, Missouri, Wade was the beloved son of Curtis and Pearl Cross. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son John Cross.
Wade’s life was a testament to love and dedication, shared with his wife, Rebecca, whom he married on October 29, 1955, in Corinth, Mississippi. Their union of seventy years and ten months was filled with joy and laughter as they raised their family together. Wade is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca; his sons Henry Cross of St. Louis, MO, William Cross and his wife Sue of Belleville, IL. He was the proud grandfather of Emily (Robert) Jackson, Amanda (Gilman) Ouellette, and Robin Cross, and the adoring great-grandfather of Reno Ouellette, Neveah, Elijah, and Tosh Cross. He also leaves behind his siblings, David Cross of Colcord, OK, Mary Dobbs of Bastorp, TX, Oleta Kartman of St. Louis, MO, and Lenora Hamrick of Fort Worth, TX.
Wade served his country with honor in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1993. His professional life was marked by dedication and a strong work ethic.
A man of many talents and passions, Wade sang and played guitar. He was a member of the Missouri Area Bluegrass Committee. His love for bluegrass music led him to become a well-known radio host for KCLC, where his voice and vibrant personality resonated with many. He brought joy to countless music enthusiasts as an MC at numerous bluegrass festivals throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Wade was inducted into the Missouri Bluegrass Preservation Association as a Pioneer of Missouri Bluegrass Music on January 3, 2020.
Wade was a man of sharp wit and humor, known for his ability to tell a captivating story and make everyone feel like an old friend. He never knew a stranger and was always ready to share a laugh or lend an ear. His interests were varied, and he could often be found watching the St. Louis Cardinals, cheering on his favorite football teams, or getting lost in a good western novel. He was an avid outdoors man enjoying hunting and fishing .
Wade leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and music. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew him.
His family and friends will gather to celebrate his life, cherishing the memories of a remarkable man who touched the hearts of many. Wade Ellis Cross will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Services from Kutis Funeral Home, City Chapel, 2906 Gravois Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63118 on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 11:30am. Interment immediately following at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
