1938-2023
Carol Ann Eddy fortified with the Sacraments of Baptism, Confession, Communion, Confirmation, and Anointing of the Sick, peacefully passed away at the age of 84 on June 9, 2023 following a brief stay at de Greeff Hospice House in South St. Louis County, Missouri.
Carol was a Christmas baby born December 25, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles C. and Helen C. Eddy (nee Hartmann). She is survived by her younger sister Mary Ellen Wescovich, brother-in-law Gene Wescovich, sister-in-law Judy Eddy, aunts Julia Hartmann and Frances Lucas, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles Eddy and Robert Eddy, and sister-in-law Rita Eddy.
A lifelong devout Catholic, Carol enjoyed celebrating Holy Mass and loved all things Irish. She cherished her Irish heritage and had the good fortune of travelling to Ireland to research her family’s genealogy. Carol shared this love with her grand-nieces and nephews by giving them Irish mementos for Christmas and birthday gifts.
As a teenager, Carol entered religious life and spent her early years with the Sisters of Christian Charity. After graduating high school from Maria Immaculata Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, she obtained a B.A. in Education from Loyola University – Chicago and later a Reading Specialist M.A. from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
Carol dedicated her 47 years of teaching as an elementary school teacher and helping special education students to read. Her service spanned many years and many states, including Minnesota, Michigan, Louisiana, Illinois, and home, here in St. Louis. Her dedication to teaching continued in her later years with a special interest helping to further the education of her nieces and nephews. Carol also took great pleasure in tutoring a number of her grand-nieces and nephews in math and reading.
The holiday seasons were very special to Carol and she particularly enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with her family. She loved the coconut cake that was her traditional birthday/Christmas dessert and bringing her special candle for the cake to properly celebrate a festive meal. Carol looked forward every year to having her nephews help her with her Christmas tree from Ted Drewes and their frozen custard was her absolute favorite.
