It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Bernadette “Bernie” Diane Fagan (née Koch) on November 11, 2023 at the age of 69.
Beloved wife of John M. Fagan for 45 years, loving mother of Charles (Catherine) Fagan and Heather (Evan) Ardoin, adoring grandmother of Matthew, Norah and Emma Fagan and Felix and Margot Ardoin. Loving sister to Betty Collins, Beverly Driemeyer, and Barry (Tess) Koch. Bernie was preceded in death by her sister Barb Johnson and brother Bruce (Penny) Koch.
Bernie was raised in north St. Louis county. She graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1978, where she met her husband, John, and formed many life-long friendships. They raised their family in south St. Louis city in the St. Aloysius parish and cherished the community they found there. Eventually moving to south St. Louis county, Bernie could often be spotted driving around town in her signature T-bird convertible with Cardinals decals.
No matter where Bernie was, she lived a life full of passion. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Bernie loved her family first and foremost. She was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and never missed a game. She was a fierce competitor in Words with Friends, likely as a result of the many puzzles she completed as part of her daily routine. She loved swimming laps in her pool and teaching her grandchildren to swim. She will forever be remembered for her generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand to help someone in need.
Visitation will take place at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Road on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at Kutis on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Interment will directly follow at Resurrection Cemetery at 6901 MacKenzie Road.

John and Family,
What a tremendous joy and honor to have been blessed to know Bernie. Her generosity and kindness had no equal. As a first responder – I was in awe of how Bernie would be of service to those who served. And if she did something kind for another soul, she didn’t need to brag or even have the person know where the kindness came from. She was so kind to my best friend Bill before he passed and just as kind to us. We will treasure knowing her and never forget her. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Godspeed.
