In Loving Memory

Finder Sr., Joseph Wilbert

December 31, 1934-May 15, 2018

Joseph W. Finder passed away on May 15, 2018 at 8:35pm surrounded by his wife, children, grand-children, and great grandchildren.

The greatest male saint who ever lived was not a deacon, not a priest, not a bishop, not a pope, not a hermit, not a monk…he was husband, father, and a worker.

–St. Josemaria Institute

Joseph W. Finder lived a life deeply rooted in the Catholic Faith. Similar to his patron saint, St. Joseph, he was a loving husband and father, a man who worked with his hands, a man who watched over and cared for his family, and who had a deep faith in God. Joseph was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over seventy-five years and with a servant’s heart he volunteered in many roles. Joseph answered the call to defend our country during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Joseph married his beloved wife Patricia Helen Vollmar in 1960 and had seven children. Joseph devoted his life to service as a volunteer with the church, soldier, Alderman of Valley Park, and AMVETS.   A bricklayer by trade, Joseph became an entrepreneur and remained in business for over sixty years.   He took great pride in his business (Joseph Finder Bricklaying Company).   Joseph exemplified a life of leadership, humility, commitment, love of children, and above all things faith. Beloved husband of Patricia Helen (Vollmar) Finder of 58 years.  Father of Helen Finder, Joseph W. Finder Jr., Edward Finder (Alicia), David Finder, Steven Finder (late), Anne Barry (Ray), Julie Restoff (John). Precious grandfather of Michael, Brian, Megan, Edward Jr., Cassandra, Natasha, Josephine, Hannah, Sean, Olivia, and John Paul lll.  Great grand- father of Noah, Ari, Chloe, Evelyn, Aubrey, and Joelle.

Joseph Finder was the son of the late Anna and Frank Finder; a dear brother of Marjorie (the late Ralph) Butler, Donald (Marilee) Finder and the late Carolyn (Bob) Villhard, John B. (surviving Betty) Finder, Edward Finder and James Finder.

“Big Joe” will remain forever in our hearts and actions.

Dad our family has been blessed to call you father and grandfather.  We thank you for your unconditional love for Mom and your loyalty to our family.  You have been the backbone of our family since the beginning of our lives.  You have truly shown us Christ’s love here on earth.  You taught us that love is an action verb.  Until we meet again Dad! Love, Helen, Joe Jr., Eddie, David, Steven, Anne, and Julie.

Services: Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois Rd., Monday, May 21st, 9:15 AM to Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Valley Park) for 10:00 AM Mass. Interment at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery. Visitation Sunday, 3-8 pm.
