Phyllis Fischer

In Loving Memory

Fischer, Phyllis Ann

July 26, 1958 - December 3, 2024

Passed away on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024.

Beloved daughter of the late Charles G. Fischer and Vera L. Fischer (nee Eggers); loving sister of Ellen (Steve) Frye; adoring aunt of Emily (Erik) Henriksen, Eric (Erin) Frye, Martin Frye and Robert Frye; cherished great aunt of Sunny and Vera Henriksen and Charles and Miles Frye. And as Phyllis would say “I have a lot of family,” she had numerous cousins and friends. She delighted in reciting family members birthdays and states where they lived.

Phyllis’s dearest friends included housemates who lived with her in homes staffed by wonderful and loving caregivers from Ablelight, (formerly known as Bethesda Lutheran Communities) for nearly 39 years!

Phyllis always kept her word search puzzle books nearby. She had fun bowling, going to Cardinal baseball games and to dances, especially the Pujols Prom.  She worked in production assembly at Heartland Industries for 38 years.

Her sweet disposition touched everyone she met.  Known as the world’s best hugger, her love was contagious and disarming.

As the dementia that manifests in everyone with Down’s Syndrome progressed over the last year, she moved to The Gietner Nursing Home, but still seemed happy and content, greeting fellow residents and the caring, attentive staff with her tender words, “I love you!”

SERVICES: Visitation will be held at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123) on Wednesday, December 11th from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery.

  1. I have many fond memories of Phyllis, extending back to our playtimes in childhood when you lived on S. Yorkshire. She’d come running to greet me – nearly knocking me over with her bear hugs. At lunchtime Phyllis was in charge of seating assignments- pointing out where I was to sit. When we played records she’d belt out her favorite songs and dance. Phyllis’ ability to add a shimmer and glow to ordinary days has always been her superpower. You will be missed!

  2. My fondest memories of Phyllis harken back to our childhood days when the Fischers lived on S. Yorkshire Dr. I walked over from my home for a playdate and Phyllis would greet me at the door with bear hugs. When lunchtime came, it was Phyllis who directed me where to sit. In the afternoons Ellen and I would play records and Phyllis would sing and dance to her favorite songs!
Phyllis’ super power was to infuse delight and joy into each and every ordinary day- and I was a blessed recipient to witness her sparkle!

  3. I got to know Phylis through my nephew Michael Biermann. She and her lifelong friend Beth along with Michael made quite the trio. I’ll always remember her singing that Jesus loves me because the Bible tells me so, and her heart definitely had a love for her Savior. Looking forward to seeing her again in our new redeemed body. Her friend in Christ, Ted Biermann.

  4. Phyllis has been a part of my family’s life since she was a little girl. She went to school with my little sister Beth, and as they grew up, she became my sister’s housemate for nearly 40 years! I will miss her smiles and hugs, and how she always asked about my brothers or my husband. Phyllis will be in my heart forever!

  5. I met Phyllis years ago at her sister’s home (her smiles filled the entire room). I know from Nancy’s shares that her cousin will be surely missed. May God bless you during this time of loss and may your hearts be full of joy that she was loved by all.
