Fisher, Mildred

In Loving Memory

Fisher, Mildred

May 1, 1926 - September 24, 2024

Mildred Anderson Fisher, age 98, a resident of St. Louis, MO since 2021 and a former resident of Decatur and Cumming, GA, passed away on
September 24, 2024.

Reared on a 300+ acre farm outside of Grovetown, GA, with 13 siblings and step-siblings, Mildred graduated from Harlem High School, Harlem, GA.  For a year during World War II, she worked at Augusta Arsenal, then went to Georgia Southern for an Associate degree. After teaching 6th grade students in Jacksonville, FL for two years, and completing a stenography course in Atlanta, she was invited to serve as the Pastor’s secretary at First Baptist Church of Augusta, GA, a position she held for several years.

In 1954, she met and married Hugh Fisher and moved back to Atlanta; together they raised two daughters. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Decatur, where she served in several volunteer capacities; she was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Treasurer of the Baron DeKalb chapter. She gave generously of herself to her family, friends, neighborhood, and larger community.

She is survived by her daughters Jane and Sue (Rand); grandchildren Julie (Tim), Avery, and Thomas; great-granddaughter Sophie; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and step-siblings, and her husband Hugh.

Plans for a memorial service in Georgia will be forthcoming. Mildred will be buried with her husband in the Georgia National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
