Guenter Eric Goetzke of St. Louis passed away peacefully at the Marymount Nursing Center in Eureka on April 19, 2025. Guenter was born July 21, 1927 in Jussen, District of Bütow, Germany. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margarete (nee Sprung) Goetzke, and two brothers. He is survived by one sister, Helga Wenzel; nephew, Hartmet Wenzel and his wife Silke; great-nephew, Falk Wenzel and wife, Ophélie, and their daughter, Elisa; cousin, Werner Sprung and wife, Angela, and family.
Guenter’s education began in Jussen from 1933 to 1941 where he loved his classes and especially swimming. From 1941 to 1944 he served as a metal aircraft builder apprentice in Stolp-Reitz. From July, 1944 to August, 1945 he served in the Luftwaffe. In August, 1945, Guenter worked as a mechanic in the American Army in Baden-Württemberg until July, 1956.
In July, 1956 he came to St. Louis. The next month he took a job as a mechanic for the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in St. Louis and remained there for ten years. In 1966 he took another position as mechanic for the Lueking Transfer Company where he remained until 1980.
Guenter began his period of employment with Lambert International Airport in 1981 and worked there as a mechanic until his retirement in February, 1990. In his retirement years he continued his love for swimming, dancing, playing golf, traveling around the United States, and visiting friends and family in Germany regularly.
SERVICES: Visitation at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123) on Thursday, April 24th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM until funeral service at 6:00 PM. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery.
