Groppe, Martha D. (nee Krodel)

November 1, 1936 – January 25, 2022  Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Catholic Church, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2022 at home with family by her side. She is survived by Norbert A. Groppe, Sr., her husband of 61 years, son Stephen N. (Mary Love) Groppe of Chesterfield, MO, daughter Sharon M. (Jon) Smith of O’Fallon, MO, daughter Linda D. (Jonathan) Sheridan of New Glarus, WI, son Norbert A. (Diane) Groppe, Jr. of Washington, MO, and daughter Mary M. Groppe Walker of St. Louis, MO; seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother Michael Krodel of Edmond, OK, and sister Emily Dugo of Warminster, PA; sisters-in-law Rose Marie Groppe, SJS. of St. Louis, MO and Elizabeth A. (Groppe) Henson of Loveland, CO.

Preceding her in death are son Joseph, parents Wendolin and Mary (Wagner) Krodel, sister Susan M. Sullivan, and father-in-law August K. and mother-in-law Teresa J. (Held) Groppe.

After graduating high school in Jasper, IN, Martha attended St. Louis University and received her Bachelor of Arts in Education, English and French and taught at Laboure High School, Mehlville High School and Ursuline Academy. Additionally, she substitute taught at various schools in the St. Louis area. Martha loved golf, gardening, historical fiction, crochet, piano, cooking, baking and family events. As a devoted parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Martha passionately served on the Legion of Mary and the Ladies Sodality, and regularly visited nursing home residents in the Kenrick community.

Services: Visitation at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church  (4092 Blow St., 63116) Saturday January 29, 9:00 AM until funeral mass at 10:00 AM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.  In memory of Martha D.
