Gunter, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (nee Hilgert), born April 7, 1950, passed away peacefully at home in Imperial, Missouri with the Anointing of the Holy Catholic Church on September 1, 2024, at the age of 74 after a fierce and stoic battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, Betty maintained her wonderful humor, positive attitude, grace, kindness, generosity and great love and appreciation for her family and friends.
A devoted member of St. John the Beloved Disciple parish in Imperial, Missouri, Betty dedicated countless hours to serving others through her work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Parish Council, lector, and as a church volunteer enthusiastically participated in numerous parish activities. Known for her green thumb, Betty spent hours in her flower gardens, planting, weeding and reviving plants that others thought were beyond saving.
Betty was a proud alumna of Cor Jesu Academy and maintained close ties with her 1968 graduation class, finding inspiration, joy and comfort in her weekly video call with her special group of CJA friends. Betty was also a long-standing member in the Arnold VFW Posts #2593, Arnold Meramec Eagles #3678 and Fenton American Legion Post #400.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Jennifer (Louie) Solnosky and Amy (Kevin) Nestor; her cherished grandchildren, Christina Solnosky (Nole Freeman) and Gavin Solnosky; her sister, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many extended friends and family members. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, David Gunter, her sister, Marilyn Hilgert Ball, and her parents, Sylvester and Irene Hilgert.
Services: A visitation will be held at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 pm. A mass of resurrection will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Disciple Catholic Church, 4614 Blue Springs Road, Imperial, Missouri 63052 on Saturday, September 14th, at 10:00 am, followed by interment at St. John parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John the Beloved Disciple Catholic Church, 4614 Blue Springs Road, Imperial, Missouri 63052 and designated for use by the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
