In Loving Memory

Guzman, Troy

June 9, 1971 - February 27, 2024

Troy Guzman was a person that during his brief time on Earth made the world a better place.  Troy tirelessly, and with a great deal of overtime, poured his talents into his design projects, into mentoring, teaching, leadership, friendship, and giving.  He leaves behind a rich legacy of design, designers, friends, and philanthropy.  If you have spent any time in the St Louis area, you have seen and been positively influenced by his works.

Troy spent his professional life working in graphic design and for the past 18 years was the Director of Brand & Graphic Design at Arcturis.  Additionally, he periodically taught environmental graphics at Maryville and Webster universities.

Troy was passionately inspired by the Olympics and loved Swatch watches.  He was able to attend three Winter Olympic games and collected (and gifted) countless Swatches.  Both influences can be seen in his work.

Beyond his professional life, Troy was devoted to the charitable cycling team United by Design (UbD).  For ten years he created unique and engaging jersey designs which helped the team raise more than $500,000 in that period.  Troy not only created the designs but was also active each year in the team’s leadership committee.  The collective efforts of the team annually raised awareness and funding for Pedal the Cause, the MS Society, and other charities.

Fortunately, Troy was able to occasionally look up from his computer to find the time to visit family and to travel the world with his husband and friends.  Fiestas in San Antonio, skiing at Breckenridge, and trips to Croatia, France, Italy, and Spain; created a wealth of memories that will live on in the hearts of his many loved ones.

When Troy was diagnosed with glioblastoma (brain cancer) at the age of 51, he held his head high and fought his disease with all of the tools available.  He also focused on his relationship with Pedal the Cause creating the 2023 Living Proof design and being a Featured Fighter providing inspiration to many.  Greatly appreciated and absolutely indispensable to his fight was the army of friends who rushed to his side to provide any support needed no matter how big, even up to driving a car with his dog Riggins to and from Los Angelos where Troy had been receiving treatment.

The sun glows a little less brightly today.  He will be missed.

  7. I know Troy from high school. He was always such and kind and giving person. Haven’t seen him since that time but he still left an indelible mark on my heart. I can still remember his laugh; his smile. They say that the best legacy one can leave in this world is to be remembered. If that is true, he will live forever. I bought a shirt today and will wear it proudly in remembrance. May go out and buy a swatch too. 🙂

Benjamin and family, I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
