Douglas M Hale, 83, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Dallas County, Texas. Beloved husband for 48 years of the late Mary Clare (D’Agostino) Hale; loving father of Teresa (John Carlson) and the late Doug Hale; dear brother of Ann (late Mike) Hawkins, Barb Paradowski, Tom Hale, Paul (Mary) Hale, Sue (Tom) Seite, and the late Ed (late Fran) Hale; dear brother-in-law of Peggy (Stephen) England and the late Jack (late Shirley) D’Agostino, the late Richard (Mary Ann) D’Agostino and the late Ginny (late Bob) Nagle; dear uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend. His humble and kind spirit will be deeply missed.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 29, 1942, Doug graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis. He served his country for 4 years in the Navy as a Radioman on the USS Mauna Kea during the Vietnam War. After his Navy service he returned to St. Louis and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri at St. Louis and spent a few years teaching High School History classes. Doug married Mary Clare D’Agostino on September 14, 1973, and they settled in Shrewsbury, Missouri where they raised their two children. He started Hale Floors in the early 1980’s and helped hundreds of people and businesses to beautify their spaces for almost 30 years. Before retiring, Doug served his community as a Security Guard for several years, and he was particularly proud of his service to the Little Sisters of the Poor campus in St. Louis. Doug was a prolific writer and an avid world history buff, and he watched (and won) Jeopardy every single day. He was a devoted and steadfast Catholic and served as an usher for masses for many years. He loved collecting stamps, baseball cards, and coins from all over the world. Doug loved sports of all kinds, was an enthusiastic NBA fan and dearly loved his St. Louis Cardinals. And he was a huge fan of Big Band and Jazz music, and enjoyed music of all genres as well as classic movies and tv shows from the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s. Doug spent his final couple years in Texas with his daughter Teresa, where he made a whole new group of wonderful friends, and our family is so grateful for the love and supportive care he received at Oxford Glen Memory Care.
