James F. Helms, 90, sadly left us on June 13, 2024. He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Mary M. Helms (née Weismantel). He was a devoted father to late Gregory M. Helms, late Steven J. Helms, Carolyn M. Krutewicz (Greg), Lisa K. Loyet (Joseph), Sharon L. Heitmann, and Lara A. Bryan (Andy). He was also the proud grandfather of Rebecca Heitmann, Michael Heitmann (Nikki), Daniel Heitmann, Brad Loyet (Cassie), Aimee Loyet, Tyler Bryan, and Alexa Bryan, as well as the great-grandfather of Hadley and Laney Heitmann, and Josephine and Charles Loyet.
James was a man of his word, a good provider, and a loving family man. He lived a rich, beautiful life filled with many talents and passions. He enjoyed gardening, taking his extended family on fishing trips, and being a prankster. James’s playful spirit and penchant for pranks brought smiles and laughter to those around him.
Rest in peace, James. May your spirit find solace in the eternal waters, casting lines in peace.

I always remember you coming to San Diego and returning home on the airplane. I was just a kid in awe . I thought you were handsome.
Time went by I saw you as the prankster you were. I never could tell if you were joking or telling the truth. Your daughter’s Lisa and Sharon took after you by adding into the prank.
You were a true role model of what a man should be. Faithful to your wife and a great example to your kids.
