  3. I am so sorry for your loss. I had so many great conversations with Jeff, and as fellow coaches we talked about a lot of things; mainly all about the kids. And that’s all that Jeff was about, was bringing the best out in our kids that he could. He is a great man, and cared about others far more than himself. You will be missed Jeff.

  8. Dear Henderson Family,
After we learned of Jeff’s passing I, and several others in our Washington University class and fraternity who knew Jeff, felt very sad. Even a few days after his services I can’t begin to imagine your grief and loss, but hope that offering some of what we shared and experienced in our college years with Jeff can give you comfort like the sentiments expressed by others who have known him recently have given me.

Jeff was among the smartest, most conscientious and hardest-working members of our freshman fraternity pledge class, and grew into an even more (quiet but influential) leader later in college. Long before we earned our degrees Jeff was already a capable engineer, who led by example in building, tearing down and rebuilding again our carnival facade, not to mention mobilizing and directing a bunch of responsibility-challenged jocks to get important tasks done at a point in our lives where all of our instincts told us we could really do (or not do) anything we darn well pleased. Most sane people would have looked at the pile of old boards and beams wondering how this junk could be made into a usable, much less safe, building to host a show. I was astonished and even a little proud every time Hendo rallied and/or shamed us into completing that job. Few of us were competent to build that thing, but Jeff was the catalyst for making it happen anyway.

Later in life I got to catch up with Jeff from time to time and appreciated how hard he worked professionally, but more importantly how he worked in his family and personal life to provide for Ben, mostly with his love and time, even when he had to fight at doing so. I am filled with some bit of satisfaction that he succeeded at that, and even found more love to give and share with others, as shown by the tributes of those who knew him as a coach and friend.

With love and condolences for your loss.
