In Loving Memory

Hendrickson, Carl H.

Carl H. Hendrickson died peacefully in St. Louis on April 19, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded in his final hours by his beloved wife, children, their spouses, and all of his grandchildren.

Carl was born on January 1, 1937 — the first baby born that year in Evanston, Illinois. He was the eldest son of Margaret and Hank Hendrickson, and brother to Robert (Bob) Hendrickson and the late Richard (Dick) Hendrickson.

Carl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Saralou (Smith) Hendrickson; his three sons, Carl Jr. (Hal) and his wife Brenda, Joseph (Joe) and his wife Susan, and John and his wife Heather; and six grandchildren: Tanner, Paige, Josephine (Josie), Norah, Cecilia (Ceci), and Nathan.

After serving in the United States Army, Carl attended Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University), graduating in 1962. He went on to earn his law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1965, attending on scholarship. Carl spent nearly three decades as an attorney for Union Electric Company (now AmerenUE).

In 1994, Carl was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives, where he served four terms (eight years). After his legislative service, he continued his commitment to community engagement by writing columns for PrimeLife Circuit and later the St. Louis Call as the “Healthy Living” columnist.

Throughout his life, Carl was active in civic and values-based organizations. He was involved with the local Republican Party, Toastmasters International (earned highest Distinguished Toastmaster rank), Mary Mother of the Church (founding member, 52 years), Nazareth Living Center Foundation, and Citizens Against Pornography. He was proud to lend his voice and energy to causes he believed in.

Carl lived a life of faith, service, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy is one of integrity, thoughtful leadership, and quiet gentle strength.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM on June 14, 2025 at Mary Mother of the Church (5901 Kerth Rd, St. Louis, MO 63128) with mass at 10:30 AM and a luncheon to follow at the church hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Missouri Right to Life (www.bema.my/Life) or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.bema.my/Cancer).
