Dennis Hooker

In Loving Memory

Hooker, Dennis M.

May 17, 1952 - July 25, 2024

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, has passed peacefully; his wife and children at his side; his passing on Thursday, July 25, 2024, 72 years of age, following a 9-month battle with cancer.

Dennis was born in St. Louis, MO on May 17, 1952 to Robert Hooker and Rose (Reiter) Hooker.  He was a most loving brother to his sisters, Cathy Hooker, Nancy McKinnon and Jackie Reiter.

Dennis attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Imperial, MO, St. Pius X Catholic High School in Festus, MO and Jefferson College in Imperial.  Gifted with natural talents in carpentry, along with his studies, Dennis made a career of building homes and working in remodeling.  He was self-employed for the last 35 years, having built a rich customer base due to word of mouth; exceptional, quality work from an honest, richly gifted, caring man.

Special gifts Dennis leaves behind for his family include the home he built for his wife and children, and later, the home he built for his daughter, son-in-law and grandson.  His work was perfection and completed with detailed, loving care.  These homes serve as Dennis’ legacy for his family; his fingerprints on every brick and board in the houses he created for his wife, children and grandson to call home.

Dennis loved the outdoors and nurtured that same passion within his son, his son’s friends, and his grandson, a respect and an awe for nature.  He shares 80+ acres in southern MO with his son, and together they brought to life a small cabin where they found respite and the joy of deer season along with Dennis’ grandson.

Dennis, a member of St. Catherine Laboure Parish for 50 years loved his faith deeply.  It was here that he married the love of his life, Susan (Benner), and it is where he brought his children for sacramental blessings throughout their lives together as a family.

Dennis was a most dedicated, encouraging, protective, loving husband. He was proudest of his children, Christine (Sisul), her husband Matthew, son Joseph and Joe’s partner, Gina.  His greatest gift in life in addition to his wife and two children was his grandson, Josh.  Their bond was deep; one-of-a-kind.

A devoted husband, Dennis was the finest father; always loving, always gentle, teaching, encouraging, and so content within the family he and Susan created together.

Dennis’ gentle, quiet, private nature and his patient, loving spirit will remain with his family and many friends who loved and respected him so very much, as well as all who had the privilege of knowing him.  He will be deeply missed.

Dennis’ family invites you to join them in celebrating his life on Saturday, August 10, at St. Catherine Laboure (9740 Sappington Rd 63128),  greeting family 10-11, and at Mass at 11 AM.  In Dennis’ passing, as was true of his life, he remained of service.  His request to donate his body to St. Louis University Medical School has been honored.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis’ memory to The American Cancer Society.

Condolences

  1. We have lived across the street from Dennis & Susan for over 20 years. He was a good caring man and a good neighbor. We already miss him
