Duke was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He retired from Tarlton Corporation and a member of Union Local 110. He enjoyed collecting Civil War and history memorablia and contributed to the Missouri Civil War Museum. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, attending gun shows, antiquing and classic cars.
Services: Funeral at Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Road Tuesday, July 7, 2026, 10:30am. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation Monday, July 6, 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Missouri Civil War Museum, appreciated.
Wondering what happened haven’t heard from him in awhile. Texas and Vietnam together many years ago.
Hi, I’m Dukes brother in law, Ray. Duke had been battling Parkinsons for a couple of years and he finally lost that battle.
He was a warrior until the very end… it was PSP that finally took our hero out. Thanks for responding and God bless you and America!
Kaci, Your dad was a very nice man! I remember how he would come to your house in High Ridge to visit and he would always say Hi and waved to me! You were blessed to have him as a dad and he was blessed to have you as a daughter.
Thank you Papa for being my dad, My coach and my savior at times. While trying to write this, memories are just flooding in. You taught me a lot, and you didn’t think I’d listened. But I was listening the whole time. I hope you’re dancing in the sky.no more pain. Until we see each other again, i love you, thank you and we all will take care of sissy😔🤍

Duke was my neighbor across the street in House Springs when I was about 6 years old. I don’t remember much about his wife except that she made great fried chicken. When Duke wasn’t able to make it home in time for dinner she would feed fried chicken to me and my brother Daryl. We must have looked hungry😂😂
I recall him helping my atrociously horrible father build our concrete front porch and sidewalk. Then afterwards Duke understood what a very bad man my father was……So he ALWAYS went out of his way to say HI SHERRY & make me smile when he saw me outside. After he moved I had no clue where he was.
Then after I married the love of my life, Cecil Whitaker,
I went to visit Cec on a RIVER DES PERES job site for a surprise picnic at lunch time.
AND GUESS WHO I RAN INTO??

YES, the very same man who brought SMILES to my life as a kid!!
I know God works in mysterious ways but I gotta say this:

I recollect Cec and our son, Jake helping Duke doing side jobs for his brother in law, Ray😁
Even after Duke retired we stayed in touch. Know that you will be missed my friend❤️

I first met Duke in 2013 on opening day of the Missouri Civil War Museum where he gifted the first many wonderful artifacts to the museum. We became friends that day and enjoyed being around each other from that moment on. I consulted his expertise on many historical items through the years and learned so much from him. He will be dearly missed by all of us at the museum. He was great!
