She was my kindergarten teacher. I will never forget her!!
They are together laughing once again (in the first photo). Our Aunt Jeannie “Bean” Hussman passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, after enduring a variety of health issues over the past few years.
Bean never had any children of her own, but I think we were all her children (kind of like Dolly ☺️). She always had time to read a book or show a young person a marvel of nature. She listened with her whole heart whether you were 5 years old or 90. She defended those who were marginalized and stood up for her beliefs. Above all things she was a teacher. In her elementary school classrooms she positively impacted the lives of countless children with her gentle and creative style of teaching. I can only imagine these students carried with them her care and zest for learning as they raised their own children and moved through their lives, spreading her warmth and education endlessly.
Personally, she taught me much more than you can learn in any classroom. She taught me how to sew, how to garden, how to find fossils in creek beds, how to give myself a manicure, how to make the best burritos, how to care for others in need, and that even if you don’t want to, you have to iron wrinkled clothes. She always had an adventure for us to go on, a sleeping bag waiting for a sleepover, dishes for us to dry, an ice cold root beer float, Christmas cookies to make, a closet filled with board games and boxes of scratch & sniff stickers. She taught us to love all living creatures, especially fluffy dogs, and to persevere in the face of adversity. She was an artist and an author and encouraged us to also become both. She was amazingly intelligent and so very much loved learning. And so loved baseball and hockey. The Cardinals and the Blues were always on. She was the very best daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt. Her faith was very important to her and she always used her relationship with God to spread love, acceptance, and help others find a seat at any table. She was always a safe place where you only ever had to be yourself. She loved us fiercely in the hard times and laughed with us infectiously during the happy ones.
She ADORED Ryan (her “froggy”). Watching her do all the wonderful things she did for me, now for him, was magical. He would light up every time we were “going to see Bean”.
It’s very hard to imagine a world without her in it because she was a such an incredibly large part of mine. If you would like to honor her memory, please read a book to a child or take them on a nature walk, and help to answer all their questions and listen to their observations. I love you Bean. Until we meet again, thankfully we have your baked beans recipe and we will keep the laughter going.
Love, Your Darling Jill.
