In Loving Memory

Jones, Glenn Travis

Glenn Travis Jones, kind, loving family man passed into eternity on Sunday, June 23rd. 2019.

Glenn was born on June 13th. 1933 on Wolf Island, MO to Frank Sr. and Blanche (Shoemaker) Jones. He grew up a farmer in southern MO. He served his country as a switchboard operator in the United States Army from 1955-1957. After returning home, he received a BA, degree in Education and later M. Ed. from Southeast Missouri State University. He married the love of his life Shirley Jean (Aldrich) Jones on December 23rd. 1962. Through 50 years of marriage, they raised 3 daughters and would go on to help raise their 2 granddaughters, 3 grandsons.

Glenn loved many things in life. Family and God were closely followed by food; Glenn rarely met a meal he didn’t like. That’s mostly because a good meal met sitting down and enjoying it with family. Glenn enjoyed outdoor work, and could often be found gardening or tending his lawn for as long as he was able to do so. A constant teacher, Glenn worked first, as an administrator for the Sikeston, MO school District, then later at the same district as an elementary educator. Glenn continued his work as an elementary school teacher at the Parkway School District until his retirement in 1995. As a man of faith, Glenn attended the Valley Park United Methodist Church near his home in Fenton, MO for many years. There he was involved in many activities including The Men’s Club, and the choir, in which he and Shirley both sang. Glenn will be remembered as an educator, a Christian, but most of all, the kindest person anyone could have the pleasure of knowing. Giving was second nature to Glenn. He counseled family and friends alike and helped them in any way he could until his last day. Those closest to Glenn will remember fondly his gentleness, kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and a determination bordering on endearingly stubborn. Mostly, they will remember a good man who loved life and his family to the fullest.

Welcoming Glenn into eternity are many relatives including: his father Frank Sr., mother Blanche, siblings; Frank Jr., Velma, Dortha, Juanita, and Harold. Those left to carry on Glenn’s memory are his sisters Caroline (James), and Donna; daughters Valerie (David), Cheryl (Wincel), Mary “Beth”; son-in-law Wincel Jr.; grandchildren Ashley, Tryanna “Nanna”, Joshua, Wincel III “Buddy”, and Carl “C.J.”; great-granddaughter Layla; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held at Kutis Funeral Home, Affton Chapel location on Thursday June 27th., 2019 from 3pm-4pm for immediate family with public viewing to follow from 4pm-8pm. Glenn will be interred at Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetery, following Funeral services held at Affton Chapel at 10:30am on Friday, June28th., 2019.
