  4. I started work at Scientific Associates in St. Louis in August 1980, two weeks after violence took my youngest sister’s life. The vice president, Mr. Mattson, wanted to start up a microbiology night crew. I was at a low point in my life, depressed and glad to take a night position. That’s where I met Carol, a part-time employee, and an absolute joy to work with. She was solid, dependable, supportive, dedicated to doing with the highest standards whatever was required of her. She enriched my life with her loving nature, her laughter, sense of humor, her humanity, and her respect for others. Many of these qualities I aspired to and often failed. Carol lived them. She was a spirited person, a wife, and a mother. I’ve met few people in my 75 years whom I can’t fully describe without stating the obvious. She was a good soul, kind and sympathetic. Bless you, Carol. And to Rick and the family, I’m saddened by and sorry for your great loss.
