  17. Geno…you finally “took the hill” – your Gunny will now handle the rest from here!

I am forever grateful for all the side stories you shared with me every day! A lot of people didn’t get to see the softer side of you but I did, you ole softie.
I will hold on to the many memories we shared and I’m the lucky one to have worked side-by-side with you each day. I would LUV for my phone to ring one more time and it be you so I could tell you “Oliver…Arnold misses you”. We sure had many funny inside jokes, will miss that!

We all now have a special guardian Angel watching over us! XOXO

  19. Gene was one great man! He enjoyed his family!! Loved spending time with his grandkids and loved riding with his wife on trips! I have met Gene one time about 15 years ago through my job with ASI. We talked a lot about work and our families! He loved working for AJ Adhesives he would tell me. I sure will miss him sending me emails and talking to him. I am so sorry for his whole family because I sure know he will be missed. Prayers to all of you!

  21. Haven’t seen the Konolds in years, but I am so grateful for Gene. As a coach, he not only helped me as a player but taught me the true value of being a teammate, especially when I was forced to sit with an injury. When most would have shifted their energy to healthy players, Gene showed me how to keep score, call pitches, and so much more. He helped me to see that I still had a place on the team, even when hobbling around on crutches. For his coaching and his kindness, he will forever have a place in my heart.

Love, thoughts, and prayers to all, and to Colleen and Jen in particular. Thanks for sharing such a great man with the rest of us. May his memory be a blessing whenever you think of him.

  25. Well Geno, our lives had so many little coincidences. Navy and Marines. Interests and Quirks. Taco Tuesday. Beer. German food.

So many things left unsaid. So many stories shared.

Don’t worry, I got you brother. I’ll handle work. You get better.

Those were the last words I spoke to you.

Then I went back to my Catholic roots, and said the rosary every day for you.

And now you are at rest.

    For twenty years
This sailor has stood the watch

While some of us were in our bunks at night
    This sailor stood the watch

While some of us were in school learning our trade
    This shipmate stood the watch

Yes.. even before some of us were born into this world
    This shipmate stood the watch

In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history
    This shipmate stood the watch

Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there
    Needing his guidance and help
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times
But he still stood the watch

He stood the watch for twenty years
He stood the watch so that we, our families and
Our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety, Each and every night
Knowing that a sailor stood the watch

Today we are here to say
    ‘Shipmate… the watch stands relieved
Relieved by those You have trained ,Guided, and Led
Shipmate you stand relieved.. we have the watch…”

“Boatswain..Standby to pipe the side…Shipmate’s going Ashore..”

    Rest Well Soldier.

  29. The Malone family had the privilege of living next door to the Konold’s for 18 years.

We enjoyed watching Robert and Jennifer grow up, which included hours of Gene practicing softball swings and hits and Robert trying to study in the hammock while Gene cut the grass.

There was the battle of the grass cutting and Gene raced through his lawn on his John Deer super mower while Perry went back and forth with his Home Depot mower. Guess who was done first waiting to have a beer on the wall-yes organized Gene.

One of our better memories was Gene building a card board shelter around a fire pit to keep us all warmer. Hum cardboard, live fire and no way for the smoke to get out what could go wrong!

Oh wait then there was the idea to raise a pet duck. Yep Cesar. Colleen was thrilled as you can only imagine. Yet he entertained our daughter, Abbey and her Grammy Jane and Joan. We would always run out to see him.

    And eventually came the Harley!

What can we say living next to Gene was an experience!! Lots of serious chats, good laughs and a great friend.

Colleen was a trooper and his best friend and a wonderful spouse. You stay strong and know the Malone’s will always feel proud to have had a great friend in Gene.

Love you all. Perry, Anne and Abbey
