Her self-less devotion to her family will forever be cherished.
Born on April 11, 1927 in St. Louis to Adam and Clara Kuehnel, Audrey was a loving sister to the late Edna James, George Kuehnel, Mildred Kuehnel, Ralph Kuehnel, and Ruth Kuehnel Bardes. Audrey’s life was enriched by her many additional roles as godmother, aunt, cousin, dear friend and neighbor to so many.
A graduate of Hadley Technical High School, Audrey worked as a commercial artist for Famous Barr, Brown Shoe Co. and Wohl Shoe Co. She married the love of her life on May 28, 1949. Her loving and generous nature permeated every facet of her life, as together she and Don raised their 4 children while volunteering in church, scouts, schools, and in their community. Always the artist, Audrey also expressed her creativity through sewing, gardening, dancing, baking and knitting, and shared her talents with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Through her faith in God and love of the Unity church, Audrey was blessed to live a life full of learning, giving and making beautiful memories with family and friends.
A special thank you to the Assistance Home Care and Solace Hospice caregivers for the love and friendship they provided this past year to Audrey and all of us.
As life-long learners, both Audrey and Don generously arranged to donate their bodies to the Washington University School of Medicine to further medical education and research.
A Celebration of Life memorial service for Audrey will be held at First Unity Church of St. Louis, 4753 Butler Hill Rd. on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Visitation 12:30-2:00 pm, service begins at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the following organizations, which were both instrumental and so meaningful to both Audrey and Don’s lives: Silent Unity prayer ministry or YMCA Trout Lodge
