  3. My sweet Summer Lily,

I never experienced life the way I did until I met you.

The way you expressed yourself—with such passion, such emotion, and that certain glare in your eyes—left me completely awestruck the very first time I saw it. Right then and there, I knew you were someone I wanted in my life. I knew you were going to show me how to feel, how to love, and how to experience life in ways I never understood before.

I’ll never forget looking back at you when we were at an event, or just out in public, and seeing you tear up as you reached for a hug. I’d ask, “What’s wrong, love?” and you’d always give me that answer:

“I’m actually just really happy seeing all the ways you’ve grown and how you’ve been impacted by me being in your life.”

    That was you.

You loved with your whole heart. You cared deeply. You felt everything with a passion that was impossible not to notice. And you left pieces of yourself in everyone lucky enough to know you.

You taught me how to love without reason. You taught me to stand up for what’s right, even when no one else will. You taught me that I could be a safe place for somebody—anybody, at any time. And you taught me to be passionate about the things that bring me joy, to embrace what makes my heart feel alive, and to never be afraid to feel deeply.

There’s so much more I want to say.

There are so many memories I could tell, so many things you taught me, so many little moments that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. And somehow, no matter how many words I use, they’ll never be enough to explain what you meant to me.

    You changed me.

You showed me parts of myself I didn’t know existed. You taught me how powerful it is to be seen, to be loved, and to love someone completely. The person I am today carries pieces of you everywhere I go.

And although my heart is broken that I have to say goodbye, I don’t want goodbye to be the only thing I remember.

I want to remember your passion.
    Your laughter.
    Your eyes.
    Your hugs.
    The way you cared.
The way you made people feel safe.
The way you celebrated the people you loved.
The way you could make me feel like the luckiest person alive just by looking at me.

I will carry all of that with me.

I love you with my entire heart and soul. I always have, and I always will.

    Thank you for finding me.
    Thank you for loving me.
Thank you for changing my life.
Thank you for teaching me how to feel.

Until we meet again, my sweet Summer Lily.

    From one grub to another,

    Vatu

  6. Jacki and I were great friends. We went through a lot together in our early 20s, and the love that we had for each other never faded I was always in her corner. I’ve had my struggles like we all do, and we had a really deep cathartic 2+ hour conversation at a festival in June 2025. Long story short, she was heartfelt and shared her feelings of love and admiration for me and my friendship as one of constant support (day or night, mostly phone conversations) in her life that she could always turn to and not feel judged or guilty about her struggles. We were talking about sobriety, and towards the end of the conversation, she looked at me with the sweetest and most sincere eyes and gave me probably the best compliment that I’ve ever received from anyone. It was “that when she looks at me, she sees a mirror image of what she could be,” calling me a “light” and to be loved that way, and seen for who I am. I’ve carried those words with me this past year and a half, and I will always cherish them and that conversation. I will miss her very dearly, as I’m sure you, your family, and her friends will as well!

  7. We went to high school together, she was two years older than me. I was getting bullied for wearing a anime T shirt and I was a new kid. She told the kids to fuck off and had lunch with me every day for a couple of weeks until I had friends that I could hang out with. She’d see me in the halls and make sure I was doing okay. Jackie was kind.
